Rain and cold weather couldn’t stop people from heading to the Marina Inn to see Dr. Lori Verderame do what she does best—appraise, inform, and entertain. Curious Siouxlanders from all over the region came with their vintage finds, family heirlooms, and thrift shop bargains to get Dr. Lori’s two cents, and the potential for so much more.
Some of the more memorable pieces included artwork made from the wings of butterflies and moths and a sterling silver tea set from 1811. One guest brought in a hand-embroidered account of the Battle of King’s Mountain from the Revolutionary War that dated back to the 1800s. She cared less about what it was worth—which was substantial—and more about how to care for the piece so that it would last for years to come.
Not everyone who came had something appraised, choosing instead to enjoy Dr. Lori’s engaging sense of humor and learn about what everybody else brought in. They may have arrived empty-handed, but they left with a well-spent afternoon.
“Dr. Lori always does such a great job and is very entertaining to watch,” added Mary Marker, Marketing & Sales Coordinator with Security National Bank Wealth Management. “My favorite moments were when people found out that their $5 garage sale item was, in fact, worth over $200 or when the priceless family heirloom had an actual price tag of $25,000. Those were some pretty good surprises.”
For 134 years and counting, Security National Bank has partnered with local families and businesses to provide strong financial advice, reliable information, and tools to best prepare them for a successful future. Hosting Dr. Lori has become a local tradition in the making, and one we’re proud to continue to repeat.
